TSG reach second round after shootout drama
Personnel & tactics:
The first competitive match of the season saw Stefan Posch, Kevin Vogt and Ermin Bičakčić form a back three in front of goalkeeper Oliver Baumann, who replaced the injured Benjamin Hübner as captain. Pavel Kadeřábek (left) and Kevin Akpoguma (right) began on the flanks. Florian Grillitsch partnered Dennis Geiger in central midfield, while Andrej Kramarić, Ihlas Bebou and Christoph Baumgartner formed the attacking triumvirate.
When they lost possession, Vogt pushed forward level with the midfielders and the back five became a back four. TSG were forced into their first change after 20 minutes, with Kadeřábek substituted off and replaced by Joshua Brenet after picking up a knock.
Hoffenheim boss Sebastian Hoeness, who was also without the injured Robert Skov and Munas Dabbur, was forced into another substitution in the second half after Posch got injured. He was replaced by Kasim Adams, while Bebou made way for Ishak Belfodil in the 70th minute. Mijat Gaćinović replaced Geiger in midfield in a like-for-like change in the 83rd minute. After going 2-1 down, TSG brought on João Klauss for Grillitsch in the 106th minute.
Moment of the match:
Christian Bickel's penalty: the Chemnitz midfielder missed the 10th and final spot-kick of the shootout. That meant TSG came through the penalty drama and reached the DFB Cup Second Round.

First really good opportunity: Kramarić carries the ball to the edge of the area and then shoots from 18 metres, but unfortunately his effort is wide of the mark.
That should've been 1-0. Bebou squares to Kramarić inside the box and he shoots from close range, but it goes wide once again. That was a really good chance.
The next major opportunity for Kramarić. The Croat meets Akpoguma's cross from the right flank with a header five metres out but puts it over the crossbar.
It's another dangerous cross from Akpoguma. Baumgartner latches onto the cross but his attempt is thwarted by Jakubov.
Brilliant through-ball to Bebou from Brenet. The striker goes round the goalkeeper and then squares the ball to Kramarić, who is left with a simple tap-in.
Chemnitz cross the ball into the centre from the right flank and Freiberger gets the better of Akpoguma to level the score at 1-1.
Chemnitz almost take the lead with a lovely long-range shot from Müller that flies narrowly over the bar.
Huge opportunity all of a sudden as Belfodil latches onto a long pass and goes clean through, but he is put under pressure at the last minute and can't generate proper power on the ball.
Brilliant free-kick into the middle from Kramarić but Bičakčić heads over from close range.
Chemnitz take a dangerous throw-in from the right flank. The ball lands at the feet of Bickel, who finds the corner with the outside of his boot.
Baumgartner has a go at goal from five metres out but can't generate enough power and it's ultimately an easy save for Jakubov.
Baumgartner heads at goal from 16 metres out. Jakubov is beaten but the ball comes back off the post.
Having been fouled in the penalty area, Kramaric steps up to take the resultant spot-kick and comfortably slots it into the net.
Oliver Baumann saves two penalties in the shootout, while Bickel also misses for Chemnitz. Meanwhile, Kramaric, Belfodil and Baumgartner all net from the spot to ensure TSG's progression.
