Short description
Attila Szalai was brave enough to make the jump to a foreign country at a young age. The defender, born in the Hungarian capital Budapest, moved to Austria at the age of just 14 to join the country's most successful side, Rapid Vienna. After five years in Vienna, where Szalai learned German, and made his professional debut, he returned home. He joined Mezökövesd-Zsory, where he became a regular starter, before moving to the Cypriot first division team, Apollon Limassol. After a year and a half on the Mediterranean island, the 6 foot, 3 inches tall defender joined Fenerbahce in January 2021. He proved himself at a high level in Turkey and racked up a number of appearances in European competitions. He made his debut for the national team in November 2019, and played every minute for Hungary at the European Championship in 2021. In the summer of 2023, he moved to TSG Hoffenheim.
