Hoeness: "We're looking forward to a top match"

It will be Baden derby time on Saturday (15:30 CET / Live Ticker at tsg-hoffenheim.de), with TSG Hoffenheim set to visit SC Freiburg. With fourth place at home to fifth, this Baden derby promises to be an exciting one. At the press conference prior to the clash, head coach Sebastian Hoeness and Oliver Baumann spoke about the personnel situation, the opposition and the goalkeeper's contract extension.

Sebastian Hoeness on…

…the personnel situation: „Ermin Bičakčić, Jacob Bruun Larsen, Robert Skov, Dennis Geiger and Marco John will definitely miss out. There are questions marks over Florian Grillitsch. We need to wait and see in his case."

…Saturday's game: "This Baden derby will be a top match. Fifth place away to fourth, that's a good story. We're looking forward to it. It is an extremely tough task to play in Freiburg. We want to win and go above Freiburg."

…the opposition: "They've had a slightly weaker spell but haven't played badly. It was only a results crisis, which they fought their way out of last week. We will need to be on full alert and have to be particularly careful when it comes to set-pieces. They're extremely stable and an unpleasant opponent."

…Oliver Baumann's contract extension: "I'm naturally delighted about it. It sends a strong message. The club now has planning security. We'll see what happens beyond that. Luca Philipp is playing in the U21 national team. We'll also be thinking about that."

Oliver Baumann on…

…his contract extension: "It is a great sign of the recognition I enjoy from the club. I am very thankful for that. I'm very happy that I will continue to be part of this success story. I want to keep being successful here and would like to pay back the trust shown in me. Both on a sporting and private level, I feel very comfortable here."

…the match on Saturday: "It's something special of course. I still know a lot of faces and have contact to some of the players. I'm delighted that it's going well for Freiburg but of course I want to win on Saturday. It's a top match."

The opposition's form:

SC Freiburg will be brimming with confidence. Coach Christian Streich's side demolished Borussia Mönchengladbach 6-0 away from home on Sunday to record their biggest-ever Bundesliga victory. If SCF, who currently occupy fourth with 25 points, pick up two more points in their remaining three games, it will be the best first half of a season in their history.

Head-to-head record:

TSG are winless in four matches against Freiburg and have lost three times during that barren streak. Their last meeting in May 2021 ended in a 1-1 stalemate. All in all, it is Freiburg who have the better head-to-head record in the Bundesliga, with seven wins to TSG's five. There have also been 10 draws.
