DKMS blood-type action at the home match against Dortmund
A DKMS stand will be set up next to the Fanhaus at the PreZero Arena before the home match against Borussia Dortmund. Fans and stadium visitors can be blood type-tested from 13:00 CEST onward. A cheek swab is enough to actively fight against blood cancer. DKMS staff will be on hand to answer any medical questions or clarify any issues. Anyone between the ages of 17 and 55 can be tested free of charge and without obligation.
As recently as December 2024, TSG campaigned for Ben, a young patient and football fan from Kirchheim, and called on its fans to register. In September 2022, there was a registration campaign organised by the active fan scene at the match against Mainz 05. Around 80 spectators decided to make themselves available as stem cell donors on that match day.
The first match took place in October 2024. TSG fan Moritz, 21, who is a member of the Young Boyz fan group, gave a patient in Central Europe a second chance at life with his stem cell donation. The Sinsheim native, who has been going to the stadium for 16 years and can no longer imagine his life without the club, found out about the DKMS campaign through his fan group and registered straight away.
"Registration was very easy and took less than five minutes," says Moritz, adding: "I was contacted by DKMS a few months later and was quickly told that I was a suitable donor. I was delighted to be able to help and agreed straight away. From that moment on, everything happened pretty quickly."
"Moritz is the perfect example of how quickly you can become a lifesaver. We are delighted that we as a club can again help to find more people with the chance to save lives," says goalkeeper Oliver Baumann, who has been registered with DKMS for several years.
The promotion and role-model function of football clubs is immensely important for DKMS, especially with regard to the support of the fan communities. Together we can make a big difference and show blood cancer the red card. Incidentally, young Ben has now received a transplant and is recovering from the treatment. Keeper Oliver Baumann is delighted that a donor has been found for Ben and that the youngster is now on the road to recovery.
Anyone who is not in attendance on Saturday can order a registration kit for home delivery at any time online at www.dkms.de/tsghoffenheim. This way, saving lives can be done from the comfort of your sofa.
Together we can kick blood cancer out of play.
