The first game

If you just look at the result, Oliver Baumann's first game for TSG on 17 August 2014 was also the most successful. The 9-0 victory in the first round of the DFB-Pokal away to USC Paloma from Hamburg, in which Sven Schipplock scored five goals, marked the start of a journey that has not yet ended 11 years later. It is Oliver Baumann's biggest win in a TSG shirt to date.

Hoffe & Baumann go international

After 107 games at domestic level, Baumann's first game on the European stage followed in August 2017. TSG faced Liverpool in the Champions League qualifiers. Baumann has played in all of Hoffenheim's Champions League matches and appeared in 19 of 22 games in the Europa League.

Captain for the first time

Oliver Baumann has been TSG's elected captain since Benjamin Hübner retired in December 2022, and Baumann led his team onto the pitch for the first time against his former club. Julian Nagelsmann gave the goalkeeper the captain's armband for the first time in a 3-1 win over SC Freiburg on 1 September 2018.

The most frequent team-mates

In 400 games, Baumann has lined up with a total of 118 different players. A starting XI with Baumann's most frequent team-mates would look like this:

Baumann - Kadeřábek, Vogt, Bičakčić, Akpoguma - Rudy, Grillitsch, Geiger - Kramarić, Baumgartner - Bebou

On the bench: Skov, Posch, Amiri, Adam Szalai, Zuber, Hübner, Samassékou, Dabbur, Süle

The most frequent opponents

Oliver Baumann has come up against two players most often in a TSG shirt - 21 encounters each with Maximilian Arnold and Julian Brandt. A 22nd match could yet be added to the tally for both players this season, as both Wolfsburg and Dortmund are opponents in what remains of the season.

Penalty-stopper Baumann

Oliver Baumann has become a penalty specialist over the last few years: in 400 games, the keeper has saved 14 penalties. The first in March 2017 - against SC Freiburg, of course. All of the saves proved important, as none of the Bundesliga matches in which Oliver Baumann saved a penalty have ended in defeat for TSG.

A rare spot on the bench

The goalkeeper position is traditionally rarely rotated, and Baumann has always been the clear number one since his arrival in Hoffenheim. He only sat on the bench once in the Bundesliga: on Matchday 34 of the 2015/16 season, when Jens Grahl was given a farewell appearance in the 4-1 defeat to Schalke. Baumann has had to watch from the bench four times in the DFB-Pokal.

Record man

Saturday's match was not only Oliver Baumann's 400th game in a TSG shirt, but also his 486th in Germany's top flight. The goalkeeper has long since worked his way towards the top of the all-time list, with only 16 players in Bundesliga history having made more appearances than Oliver Baumann. Next season, he could break the 500-game barrier - only 12 players before him have done so, although Thomas Müller could join the club next week.

Freiburg again and again

Oliver Baumann's 400th competitive match for TSG was against Freiburg, as was his first game as captain and his first penalty saved in a TSG shirt. Curious fact: just like his 400th competitive match for Hoffenheim, Baumann's 350th match was also against SC Freiburg. His connection to his former club has seemingly remained unbroken.
