TSG share the spoils with Freiburg

TSG secured a point this afternoon against SC Freiburg. Andrej Kramaric initially put Hoffenheim ahead before Nils Petersen equalised from the penalty spot. Hoffenheim were the better side throughout but were unable to break down a resolute Freiburg backline once again.

Team news and tactics:

Julian Nagelsmann faced SC Freiburg with the following players in the starting XI – Oliver Baumann, Pavel Kaderabek, Florian Grillitsch, Robert Zulj, Benjamin Hübner, Kevin Vogt, Kevin Akpoguma, Andrej Kramaric, Adam Szalai, Serge Gnabry and Dennis Geiger. In total, there were four changes to the side which lost in Gelsenkirchen last weekend. Gnabry, Geiger, Akpoguma and Zulj came into the fray in place of Nico Schulz, Mark Uth, Ermin Bicakcic and Nadiem Amiri. The latter four were joined by Alexander Stolz, Lukas Rupp and Steven Zuber on the bench.

In front of Baumann in goal, the team lined up as follows: Vogt, Hübner and Akpoguma made up the back three which became a back five as wingbacks Pavel Kaderabek and Serge Gnabry tucked in whenever possession was lost. When Hoffenheim did have the ball, Gnabry and Kaderabek joined Grillitsch, Geiger and Zulj in TSG‘s midfield. Szalai and Kramaric were partnered up front.

In a first half of few chances, neither side were able to break the deadlock so both teams went into the break all square. Hoping to turn the game back in TSG’s favour, Julian Nagelsmann opted to make another personnel switch with Mark Uth replacing Adam Szalai in attack. The final substitution saw Kevin Akpoguma come off for Nico Schulz.

The moment of the match:

TSG threw everything at their visitors, winning more duels, having more possession and shooting more often. All in all, TSG were millimeters away from three points. In the 75th minute, Pavel Kaderabek headed past Schwolow but it went agonisingly wide.

The number of the match: 4

Andrej Kramaric’s goal meant he has now scored in four consecutive Bundesliga matches, scoring five in total. His last two goals have both been free-kicks.
