The blue team wins set-piece duel

On Thursday evening in Saalfelden, set-pieces were on the agenda. Corners and free kicks were practised in various forms as the Hoffenheim players experienced the first rain shower of the training camp. From the beginning of the week, the players have been used to the sun but the rain decided to show its face.

When the rain was followed by thunder and lighting over the Alps, the staff and the players withdrew from the training they had just started. The session was interrupted for around 20 minutes. The players looked for protection from the rain underneath umbrellas or in the changing rooms.

Once the storm had passed, the players put on rain jackets and resumed training. The session ended with a team exercise, with one wearing yellow, the other blue. Both had the same number of set-pieces at their disposal and the winner, as always in football, was the one who scored the most goals.

Volland and Firmino with dream goals

After Anthony Modeste put the blue team 1-0 ahead with a header, Kevin Volland stepped up (for the blue team) to take his free kick. From around 20 yards out on the right-hand side, the attacker had a short run-up before hitting a left-footed shot that prompted celebration. His unstoppable effort had gone into the top corner. 2-0 for the blue team and the yellow team needed to respond. Sejad Salihovic tried but his effort was blocked, before Roberto Firmino fired in the rebound, with the help of a little deflection, to make it 3-0. Two different moments had been followed by two dream goals.

Even after the yellow team fought back and scored, it was the blues who ran out 3-1 winners. The victors celebrated, posing for a triumphant photo on the pitch.
