Stach: "We have to fight against it"

Here's what the players and coaches had to say on TSG Hoffenheim's 3-0 defeat at VfL Wolfsburg in the DFB-Pokal last 16.

Oliver Baumann: "Whoever concedes the first goal in a game like this is really up against it. But we were also too passive in phases and too harmless in the first half. In the second half, Wolfsburg performed better and we only had a few shooting opportunities. Prior to the first goal we conceded, I positioned the wall for a long time but got little in the way of a response. Then the ball took a minor deflection and I couldn't get to it. Then it looked extremely stupid."

Anton Stach: "We're disappointed. Despite the high scoreline, there was a lot more in it. We certainly could have gone through, which is why it's a real shame. It was even for a long time. We lost our structure a bit after going 1-0 down. We need to keep calm in a situation like that, but we were then unsettled about going behind. We simply need to try to fight against it. Then we will also start to score goals again at some point. I don't know what it's down to. It's a bad spell, but we cannot allow our heads to drop. What characterises a team is how they pull themselves out of a situation like this together. We'll analyse the game and then try to do better."

Christian Ilzer: "It's a major disappointment that we've now exited the competition. We played a decent game for 60 minutes. In a phase like this, we have to shift the momentum in our direction; we're not managing to do that at the moment. We then conceded goals too easily and were too harmless going forward. That then makes it difficult to win a match. We were the deserved losers in the end."

Ralph Hasenhüttl: "We played against a very strong footballing opponent today. We were not quite as compact as we were in Leipzig at the weekend. On a footballing level, we're becoming increasingly fluid, we're doing things more automatically. We found good solutions in possession, but we did not make use of them in the first half. We then wanted to make life difficult for the opponent in the second half. Then the situations that brought us the goals happened automatically. The substitutes were immediately involved, that's also a quality that sets us apart."
