Ilzer: "We want to build up the energy"

After Wolfsburg comes Freiburg: TSG Hoffenheim welcome SC Freiburg for a Baden derby on Sunday (17:30 CET/live ticker on tsg-hoffenheim.de). Ahead of the game, head coach Christian Ilzer spoke about the mood in the squad, the opposition and the excitement of playing at home.

Christian Ilzer on…

…SC Freiburg: "They won against Gladbach, perhaps their cup defeat in Bielefeld will give them some extra motivation. We've sat down to work out what kind of side we can expect to go up against. We want to ensure that the team are as well prepared as possible."

… the mood in the dressing room: "We're out of a competition that would have given us a chance of winning a title, that is always a shame. The boys we're of course very disappointed after the game. Unfortunately that's just part of football, we have to get back on our feet after losing games. You have to look forwards. We have what I hope will be a successful road ahead of us. The team are hungry and willing to take things on board."

…his memories of playing at home: "I'm happy that we're going back to playing at home. We have good memories of the win over Leipzig. The three away games didn't go the way we wanted. We want to build up the energy from the Leipzig game again."

…the personnel situation: "Marius Bülter and Umut Tohumcu won't return to action before Christmas. Fortunately there were no additional injuries from the Wolfsburg game."

The opposition's form:

After a strong start to the season, coach Julian Schuster's team have recently experienced a slight dip in form and lost 3-1 away to Arminia Bielfeld during the week in the DFB-Pokal. Freiburg secured a 3-1 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach in their last Bundesliga match.

Head-to-head record:

TSG have gone six games without a win against SC Freiburg and have won just one of their last 11 meetings with the Breisgauers. As a result, Freiburg's overall tally of 14 wins to Hoffenheim's seven clearly tips the scales in favour of SCF (plus 11 draws).
