Bischof: "This game will give us a lot of strength"

This is what the players and the leadership had to say about TSG Hoffenheim's 1-1 (0-0) draw against SC Freiburg.

Oliver Baumann: "After being a goal down, it feels like we won a point. For us it was important to take a step in the right direction. Of course, the chances to win were there, but it was still important for us to make progress. We barely have training sessions where we can practise anything. But the game has made me feel positive. It makes me proud that I've already been in the Bundesliga for so long now, and now there are just these names and greats (editor's note: Oliver Baumann overtook Sepp Maier in the list of Bundesliga record players), it's nice that I'm also up there."

Jacob Bruun Larsen: "It was a good fight. In the second half we conceded an unfortunate goal, but we showed good morale. Going a goal down isn't what you want. I had a big chance to score a goal, and I wanted and needed to score it. But that's how it is in football sometimes. But after the 0-1, we still believed in ourselves and managed to equalise. That's good for morale, and mentally it's also a step in the right direction."

Tom Bischof: "I think we played a good game. We earned lots of chances for ourselves. We could've scored a second or even a third goal, but that's just the way it is sometimes. In the second half, we really gave it our all and won ourselves chances to score. But overall it didn't go our way. With my goal, I saw that Max (editor's note: Moerstedt) wanted to hold the ball up, and I went after it and just took the shot. I think the game will give us a lot of strength, because Freiburg are very good opponents."

Christian Ilzer (Coach TSG Hoffenheim): "It was an intense game. We'll take the point for our spirits, and it was well-deserved. We just let Freiburg get into our penalty area too easily in the first phase of the game, but after 20 minutes we got the game more and more under control. I liked the second half, the team had great energy. Unfortunately we didn't go into the lead in this phase, and we needed the momentum that a goal would've given us. Immediately after our big chance, we unfortunately conceded because we weren't paying attention during a set piece. We responded brilliantly and equalised, we basically forced that goal. For me the game was a step in the right direction. It was a fair result."

Andreas Schicker (Managing director TSG Hoffenheim): "I'm satisfied with the performance today. We played well for long periods of the game, and had the better chances. Then we unnecessarily went a goal down because of a set piece, but scored a nice goal to equalise. I could see that the boys left everything out there on the pitch. That's why we have to be satisfied with the point. We know that it's a process. We played a very decent game today against a team which doesn't make many mistakes. In the last few minutes, you could see that we were really having to dig deep, but everyone kept pushing each other. We absolutely want to progress in the Europa League, and we know it's important to win against Bucharest on Thursday."

Julian Schuster (Coach SC Freiburg): "After our defeat in the Cup, it was important to show the right response. Today the team performed well against an opposition who created a lot of chances for themselves. Of course we would've liked to win after we went into the lead, but a win wouldn't have been a fair result. We have to be critical of ourselves that we made a lot of wrong decisions in the final third. That meant that we missed out on creating more chances for ourselves."
