TSG lose to a clinical FC St. Pauli side

TSG Hoffenheim suffered a 2-0 (1-0) defeat to FC St. Pauli on Bundesliga Matchday 9. The visitors from Hamburg took their first opportunity and went in front through Oladapo Afolayan (20). TSG might have had more of the possession but found hardly any gaps in the well organised defence of the hard-fighting Hamburg outfit. TSG continued to struggle heavily in the second period and chances remained few and far between, as they already had been in the first period. Andreas Albers, who had come off the bench shortly beforehand, then scored the decisive goal following a counter-attack in stoppage time (90+3).

The line-up

Head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo made five changes compared to the 2-1 victory against 1. FC Nürnberg in the DFB-Pokal: Stanley Nsoki, Valentin Gendrey, Alexander Prass, Tom Bischof and Andrej Kramarić came into the starting line-up.

The scenario

A meeting of two table neighbours: TSG were in 15th place ahead of the match, while St. Pauli were three points behind in 16th position. The promoted outfit leapfrogged TSG with the win.

Moment of the match

The goal for 1-0: St. Pauli took their first chance of the match and scored the golden goal from it.

Number of the game: 522

TSG might have completed 522 passes, but none of them brought about a goal.
