Stach: "The penetration was lacking"
Florian Grillitsch: "Defeats are always bitter. We made a very good start to the game and had good situations that we could've made more from. But we didn't manage to score the goal and then St. Pauli got the goal practically out of nothing. After that, we slightly lost our way when it came to getting into the final third and becoming dangerous. St. Pauli sat deeper in the second half, we tried to play crosses and have a presence in the box, but it's not always the team that has more possession that wins. Our last matches have been good, but what we have to criticise is our lack of efficiency when converting chances into goals. It's a setback, but we must not now paint everything in a negative light."
Anton Stach: "The penetration was lacking today. St. Pauli scored one goal from one chance in the first half. It is not easy to play against an opponent that defends so passionately together. We also lacked that little bit of luck for one of our shots to find the back of the net. We put the pressure on in the second half, but unfortunately the goal didn't come."
Pellegrino Matarazzo (TSG Hoffenheim head coach): "We're very unhappy to have missed the chance to free ourselves and continue our trend. We made a decent start to the match, the conceded goal came out of nothing. We lost our way as a result, the build-up play was then not sharp enough, we were also not well-positioned to utilise our front three. But we were too imprecise to create better chances for ourselves. When we're on the pitch, there are no alibis. Those on the pitch have to perform. We have far too few points, that's a fact."
Alexander Blessin (FC St. Pauli head coach): "We're extremely happy about the three points. We had a few problems on the flanks at the beginning, they were getting in behind our defence very easily and it got really dangerous two or three times. But after that, we were defensively solid. It was then also a nice feeling for the boys to take the lead. They then gave it everything and that used up energy. Hoffenheim had several good opportunities in the second period, but we also had several really good chances to score the goal for 2-0. We then did that at the end too. I'm incredibly proud of the team."
