TSG prematurely extend Tim Drexler's contract until 2028
"Tim has undergone an impressive development over the course of recent months. There is only one player from his birth year 2005, Mathys Tel of Bayern Munich, who saw more minutes of action in the Bundesliga last season. This statistic speaks for itself and there is no question for all of us at TSG that he can play a good role in our Bundesliga team in the short term and a leading role in the longer term," said TSG Managing Director Alexander Rosen. And Pirmin Schwegler, the Head of Professional Football in Hoffenheim, added: "Tim possesses everything that makes a modern central defender. His thoughtful build-up play, his enormous speed and his composure in pressure situations particularly stand out in this regard. And yet he is still at the beginning of his journey and we're delighted to be able to accompany this young player with impeccable character over the course of the coming years."
"I came to TSG as an 11-year-old boy, have matured here step by step both on a personal and a sporting front and was then able to play for my club in the Bundesliga for the first time last season," said Tim Drexler, who said the following of his premature contract extension. "I cannot imagine there could be better conditions than at TSG for a young player anywhere else. Ultimately, every boy's dream of becoming a professional footballer can come true here. That's why I'm really looking forward to spending the next few years in Hoffenheim."
Tim Drexler moved to the TSG Hoffenheim academy at the age of 11 and has since progressed through all the youth ranks at the Kraichgau club. He was a permanent fixture and regular player in Hoffenheim's Regionalliga team last season and was part of the TSG first-team squad under head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo for the first time in the 3-2 away victory over Borussia Dortmund on Matchday 23. Drexler made his Bundesliga debut in TSG's away game against Eintracht Frankfurt on Matchday 25 and subsequently featured in seven additional Bundesliga matches. During that time, the young central defender amassed a total of 573 minutes in Germany's top flight.
In his still fledgling career, Drexler has also made a total of 20 appearances for the TSG Regionalliga team (one goal) and has represented all the youth teams of the German Football Association (DFB) from U16 level onwards. The 19-year-old centre-back currently plays for the Germany U19 national team.
