Baumann: "Totally happy about the victory"

Here’s what the players and coaches had to say after TSG Hoffenheim's 3-2 win over VfB Stuttgart:

Wout Weghorst: "It wasn't an easy game – we knew it wouldn't be beforehand. We played against a Stuttgart side who are extremely strong on the ball, but we had a clear plan – and it worked out in the end. Whether it was deserved or undeserved? I don't care. I always say that at the end of the day, you either have the points or you don't – and we have them. We produced a good response after the less impressive game against Frankfurt. We are on a great run on the road and are doing very well now. We are in the part of the table that we want to be competing in at the end of the season, but for that you have to work a lot and improve. Because we did not do well with the ball today. We need to have more control over the game. We have plenty of things we need to improve."

… on his run to Pellegrino Matarazzo to celebrate his goal: "I wanted to express my gratitude for the trust he has placed in me. It took quite a long time for my first goal to come, and the coach knows that a striker is often only judged by their goals. He took me to one side this morning and said: 'Just stay calm, your goal is coming'."

Oliver Baumann: "I'm totally happy about the victory. But I also see the things that did not go perfectly. We let VfB get too close to our box and let them switch the play far too often. Then that becomes extremely dangerous. We often defended it well only at the very last moment, but they still created a lot of chances. We gave the ball away too quickly when we did have it. Of course, we had some excellent counter-attacks and everyone fought hard, which was all great, but nevertheless we had far too little possession. And that's hard against VfB at the moment, but we have to work on it. We have to keep the ball, otherwise it robs us of too much energy."

Pellegrino Matarazzo: "It was a very interesting game and a very challenging task for us. Stuttgart played very good football. We wanted to defend deeper and be more compact compared with the match against Frankfurt. We did well with our counter-attacks, which was also part of our plan. I would have liked to have had more control. We could have played the ball around better in several situations. We certainly had to survive some chances and we saw an outstanding goalkeeping performance by Oli Baumann. Even if it was a bit lucky, we're happy to take the points with us."

Sebastian Hoeness (VfB Stuttgart head coach): "For the first two goals, the Hoffenheim team implemented exactly what they had set out to do. That was not a good look for us. Despite going behind, we responded very well and managed to wrestle back control of the game. We had enough chances to pull one back earlier. Hoffenheim were very efficient today. After going 3-1 down, we responded really well again, quickly halved the deficit, and then hoped to turn the game around. We had chances, the performance was good, but we are disappointed to have lost the game."
