Good performance is not rewarded: TSG lose to Dortmund

Despite a good performance, TSG Hoffenheim lost 3-1 (2-1) to Borussia Dortmund. BVB took the lead via Niclas Füllkrug (18), but TSG reacted strongly and quickly levelled the scores through Andrej Kramarić's penalty kick (25). Pellegrino Matarazzo's team were subsequently the superior side but Marco Reus re-established BVB's lead in stoppage time at the end of the first period (45+3). Hoffenheim continued to set the tone in the second period but were not rewarded. Even with a man extra – after Ramy Bensebaini had been sent off for a second bookable offence (71) – TSG could not get the equaliser they desired. A counter in stoppage time decided the game for Dortmund, with Julian Ryerson making it 3-1 (90+5).

The line-up

Pellegrino Matarazzo made two changes to the starting line-up that won 2-0 away to Union Berlin. The injured Wout Weghorst and Pavel Kadeřábek were replaced by Florian Grillitsch and Ihlas Bebou.

The scenario

TSG Hoffenheim had won four of their first five games of the season and were in fifth place with 12 points. BVB were one place and one point behind TSG.

Moment of the match

There was a huge chance to equalise shortly after the restart: Andrej Kramarić chipped the ball into the middle, where the unmarked Grischa Prömel headed it against Gregor Kobel from five metres out.

Number of the game: 9

Andrej Kramarić's goal to make it 1-1 was the ninth the Croat has scored against Borussia Dortmund – TSG's record goalscorer has not netted more often against any other current Bundesliga club.

Fond farewell

Shortly before kick-off, two great TSG figures were celebrated. Ermin Bičakčić and Sebastian Rudy were given an official send-off – two legends of our club got the tribute that they deserved.

Outlook

The next matchday will see TSG travel north: Pellegrino Matarazzao's charges will be away to Werder Bremen on Saturday, with the match set to kick off at 18:30 CET.
