Pirmin Schwegler returns to TSG

"Compared to other Bundesliga clubs, TSG Hoffenheim has had very streamlined organisational structure for years. The tasks that have to be completed internally and externally have grown significantly and continuously during this timeframe," said Alexander Rosen. "We will not inflate our structure in the future, but we will adapt it to a moderate degree in order to meet the requirements facing a modern and ambitious professional football club," the director of professional football continued. 

TSG are active in many areas. The innovative approach to sports science, the footballing and academic education and development of young players, their careful integration into the professional game, international cooperations, socio-political involvement and – lastly, as the core element – successful football operations in the top men's and women's divisions in Germany require clear structures, a coordinated strategy and competent leadership.

"With this in mind, we're extraordinarily delighted to have brought Pirmin Schwegler into the fold. His experience from 17 years of international professional football – with almost 400 appearances in Switzerland, Germany and most recently Australia – his character and his ambition make him an exciting recruit for us," explained Alexander Rosen. In Hoffenheim, he will have "the opportunity to develop his existing skills and his role with us in an environment that is as attractive as it is relaxed," continued the TSG director, who is giving additional thought to optimising the professional department on a structural and personnel level. 

"I'm hugely looking forward to the new challenge," said Pirmin Schwegler. "It of course gives me a good feeling to return to a familiar environment in which I always felt comfortable," acknowledged the Swiss, who also pointed out "that the club has undergone an extraordinary development in recent years. That's impressive to see. And it'll be even more impressive to be a part of it going forward." 

"I'm very familiar with the conditions that TSG work under and therefore know how to assess the successes of the past years. I can learn an enormous amount here and that's all it will be about initially. I would like to integrate quickly so that I can then make my own mark in what is a young and exciting team," said Schwegler, who has already spent several days at the training camp in Portugal, as he outlined his goals.
