TSG win comfortably at Schalke
The scenario
TSG Hoffenheim went into Matchday 10 in seventh place in the table with 14 points, while FC Schalke 04 occupied 16th position with six points.
The line-up
Head coach André Breitenreiter made one change to the starting XI that lost 2-1 against SV Werder Bremen last time out: Georginio started up front in place of the injured Andrej Kramarić.
Number of the game: 10
The two goals scored in the first half were the ninth and 10th scored in the opening 45 minutes of matches this season. It is a tally surpassed only by FC Bayern Munich (17).
Moment of the match
Schalke 04 were awarded a corner-kick on the stroke of half-time and Simon Terodde headed goalbound. TSG goalkeeper Oliver Baumann parried the ball – and then showed the presence of mind to play a perfect pass to Georginio. The Frenchman came out on top in his one-on-one battle and teed up Munas Dabbur, who curled the ball into the corner with his right foot, putting TSG 2-0 ahead and all-but deciding the game in their favour.
Penalty premiere
Robert Skov had never taken a penalty in the Bundesliga before the match at FC Schalke 04. He stepped up twice on Friday – following two VAR interventions – and ruthlessly fired both spot-kicks into the top-right corner with his laces, leaving goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow with no chance.
Outlook
Both teams will lock horns again on Tuesday in the second round of the DFB-Pokal. TSG will host Schalke at the PreZero Arena at 20:45 CET. Four days later, the Bundesliga campaign continues with a home game against FC Bayern Munich (Saturday at 15:30 CET).

Match highlights
The early opener
The perfect start: Baumgartner is fouled in the box. The video assistant referee intervenes and awards a penalty. Skov steps up and hammers the ball into the top right corner, leaving Schwolow no chance.
Georginio close to doubling the advantage
A counterattack should culminate in the second goal. Baumgartner carries the ball 50 metres towards the Schalke goal unchallenged and then squares it to Georginio, who fires over right-footed.
Almost the leveller
TSG get rather lucky there: Mollet first strikes the inside of the post with a left-footed shot from the edge of the box, then Baumann somehow manages to block Ouwejan's follow-up with his feet
Misfortune for Dabbur
The next chance to double the lead. Over on the left flank, Dabbur flicks the ball nicely into the middle. Schwolow initially saves down at his near post but then lets the ball slip through his fingers. The goalkeeper then gets his hand to the ball on the line and stops it from going in.
Second goal on the counter
What a textbook counterattack. Baumann catches Terodde's header and immediately launches an attack by playing a beautiful ball to Georginio, who holds off an opponent and then has the vision to pick out Dabbur. The striker controls the ball and then curls it into the far corner.
The woodwork again
A dangerous moment from a corner. Bülter wins the aerial battle at the near post and heads at goal, with the ball striking the left post. That was lucky.
Skov bags brace
Skov again assumes responsibility. The Dane again fires to the right with his laces; Schwolow again goes the right way, but Skov again finds the net.
Almost the fourth goal
And then the big chance to make it 4-0. Following Prömel's cross, Angeliño cuts the ball back for Georginio who is denied by Schwolow.
