Kramarić: "The luck is not on our side at the moment"
Oliver Baumann: "We created a lot of chances today and hit the woodwork – but did not score a goal. It was a combination of bad luck and a little inaptitude; it all came together today. But above all, we have to play our game to the end in a match like this. We didn't do that and as a result Mainz were then able to get the win. We can take today and, as far as I'm concerned, also tomorrow to get annoyed about it; then we need to keep working. It helps when you work a lot and focus on things. We might've now lost a few games on the bounce, but we can't allow that to knock us off course. We saw today the quality we have. However, we also saw what is still missing."
Andrej Kramarić: "It was a very intense match. We had our chances but didn't take them. I believe that we were the slightly better side but that's not what matters. It's about goals and we did not score any. We now need to work even harder on improving in front of goal. The two shots that hit the post today were obviously frustrating. The luck isn't currently on our side. I hope that changes soon. We're training well and are focused, but unfortunately the results aren't going our way at the moment."
Munas Dabbur: "We're obviously very disappointed with the result. We didn't manage to score and then conceded a goal. Something was missing in the final third. Unfortunately, that meant we lost the game. We need to keep looking forward and pick up points next week. Both shots that hit the post are of course frustrating. But at the end of the day, only goals count. The performances have actually been right recently, but unfortunately we're not being rewarded with the results. We now need to analyse that so that it goes better next week."
Kevin Vogt: "You might say we're going through a minor results crisis. But I don't think the word crisis is appropriate, even though we haven't picked up any points from our last three Bundesliga games. The performances have been good for long periods, but there are minor aspects that aren't right at the moment, which is why we're not taking home any points at present. We didn't take our chances and we didn't score today – even though we had plenty of opportunities. In addition, we didn't keep a clean sheet, our smallest errors are being punished badly. And that's how you end up with zero points, even though you were the dominant team for long spells. That doesn't get you anywhere, though. Going ahead would do us good from time to time; then it would be extremely difficult for the opponent to come back. But if we don't manage that, we simply have to keep the score level – and we didn't manage that either. Internally, we can now speak our minds a little more bluntly and get to the heart of the matter. We stand together as a team; that's why it's okay and that's why we'll get out of this situation."
Sebastian Hoeness: "It was the intense match we expected. Mainz are extremely unpleasant to play against. We made a really good start to both halves. Unfortunately, we didn't take our chances. We didn't take advantage of the moments we had. Things also looked good at the start of the second half. We were superior but didn't convert our opportunities. That meant that the match remained open and Mainz capitalised ruthlessly. The goal for 1-0 is of course extremely frustrating. And the penalty for 2-0 was also totally avoidable. The game was up after that. We're cheesed off."
Bo Svensson (1. FSV Mainz 05 coach): "This was a very important victory for us. TSG were the better team today. They ensured that we didn't look good. As a result, we had hardly any control over the game. Nonetheless, we're delighted with the victory. We started to play more football after going 1-0 up. The self-confidence has helped us and I hope that we'll play better in the future."
