Historic final-day duels with Dortmund
Did you know that…
…the two teams are preparing for their third Matchday 34 meeting?
TSG supporters will have fond memories of the two previous final-day meetings with Borussia Dortmund. Indeed, the victories in those games have been among the biggest successes in the club's history. In 2013, two Sejad Salihović penalties saw Hoffenheim come from behind to beat the Champions League finalists 2-1 and avoid an automatic relegation berth. Five years later, TSG claimed a 3-1 victory that took them above BVB and into third place – ensuring UEFA Champions League qualification for the first time.
…Hoffenheim are unbeaten in four matches against Dortmund?
The last time that TSG suffered defeat at the hands of Dortmund came back in the winter of 2017 - a 2-1 loss. Since then, Hoffenheim have claimed two wins and two draws against Borussia. It is the Black & Yellows' longest winless run against any current Bundesliga club.
…TSG and BVB score lots of goals from the bench?
Christoph Baumgartner's goal, which made it 4-0 against Union Berlin, was the 12th time that a Hoffenheim substitute has found the net this season – a league high. Next in that ranking are Borussia Dortmund (10 goals).
…Dortmund often keep clean sheets?
BVB have already stopped their opponents from scoring on 15 occasions this season – that's more clean sheets than any other club in the German top-flight.
