DFB Cup: Competitive action returns in Würzburg
Did you know that…
…Würzburg's season is already underway?
The Kickers made a positive start to their third division campaign, which kicked off with a 3-1 victory over Bayern II back on 14 July. But coach Michael Schiele's charges have lost all three of their subsequent league matches and currently occupy 17th place with just three points.
…the two teams have never previously contested a competitive meeting?
The clash on Saturday will be the first time the two clubs have ever faced each other in a competitive game. A pre-season friendly had been planned between the teams this summer, but it was called off after they were drawn against each other in the DFB Cup.
…matches involving Würzburg tend to be high-scoring affairs?
The Bavarians have scored seven goals and conceded 12 goals in the third tier to date, with many of those goals coming in a curious 5-4 defeat in Unterhaching on Matchday 2. Only matches involving Viktoria Köln (20 goals) have produced more goals in the third division.
…Alfred Schreuder is a cup expert?
The 46-year-old won the Dutch Cup while an assistant coach with Ajax last summer. Schreuder has also enjoyed success as a head coach too, reaching the semi-finals with Twente Enschede in 2015.
