Schulz convinces against the world champions
Nico Schulz made his second appearance for the German national team on Tuesday evening. The Hoffenheim defender played the full 90 minutes in the 2-1 Nations League defeat to world champions France. The German national team took the lead through a Toni Kroos penalty in the first period (14), but conceded twice in the final half-hour as Antoine Griezmann struck a brace (62, 80).
"We played really well and were solid at the back. So it's a disappointment that we didn't get the win. We gave little away and that's not an easy thing to do against France," said Schulz after the match. The 25-year-old made his debut for the German national team at the beginning of September, scoring the winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Peru in Sinsheim.
NORDTVEIT AND NORWAY GO TOP OF GROUP
Another player to feature in the Nations League was Havard Nordtveit, who played the full 90 minutes as Norway beat Bulgaria 1-0. The Scandinavians went top of League C Group 3 with the victory.
Ishak Belfodil did not enjoy as much success, however. The TSG striker was part of the Algerian national team that suffered a 1-0 defeat to Benin in an African Cup of Nations qualifier. The 26-year-old was substituted on 74 minutes.
NELSON AND HACK GET ON SCORESHEET
Elsewhere, Reiss Nelson scored his second goal in as many matches for the England U21s. The Hoffenheim man, who had previously got on the scoresheet in the 7-0 drubbing of Andorra, converted a spectacular free-kick on the hour-mark that paved the way for a 2-0 victory over the Scotland U21s.
Robin Hack also found the net on Tuesday evening. The 20-year-old scored the opening goal in the 10th minutes as the Germany U20s claimed a 3-2 victory over their Swiss counterparts. His team-mate Alfons Amade came on from the bench in the 61st minute.
Justin Hoogma and Christoph Baumgartner enjoyed success of their own. Hoogma was part of the Netherlands U21 side that recorded a 3-0 victory in a Euro qualifier against Ukraine, setting up the second goal in the 24th minute. Baumgartner, meanwhile, was in the starting line-up for the Austria U21 team that beat Russia 3-2.
Gregor Kobel was part of the Switzerland U21 team that were beaten 3-1 by the Wales U21s.
Pavel Kaderabek (Czech Republic) did not feature for his country in the Nations League clash with Ukraine. Nor did Meris Skenderovic, who was in the Montenegro U21 squad to face Kazakhstan U21s.
