Coach Julian Nagelsmann made three changes to the team that started the 2-1 defeat to Manchester City. Captain Kevin Vogt returned to central defence, where he played alongside Stefan Posch and Kevin Akpoguma in a back three. The wide berths were occupied by Joshua Brenet and Nico Schulz, who started in place of Pavel Kaderabek.
Leonardo Bittencourt returned to the starting XI, forming a central midfield trio with Florian Grillitsch and Kerem Demirbay. His return saw Joelinton start the match on the bench, with Ishak Belfodil and Adam Szalai again starting up front together.
Bittencourt was forced off with back problems during the second half and was replaced by Vincenzo Grifo. Julian Nagelsmann made two other changes, with Reiss Nelson and Joelinton coming on in place of Florian Grillitsch and Kevin Akpoguma. TSG switched to a back four after making their substitutions.
Moment of the match
The opening goal. Kevin Trapp pushed a shot from Kerem Demirbay onto the crossbar in the 39th minute and Eintracht Frankfurt took the lead soon afterwards thanks to an Ante Rebic lob.

TSG were twice denied by the woodwork in the opening period. Bittencourt came close in the 29th minute, as did Demirbay 10 minutes later. In addition, Reiss Nelson scored his second goal of the season.
