Wins for Wagner, Nordtveit and Kaderabek
Wagner’s goal helped Die Mannschaft on their way to a 5-1 win over Azerbaijan, thereby cementing his team’s perfect qualifying campaign with ten wins from ten. This is a feat Germany have achieved only twice before in their history, once qualifying for the 1982 World Cup and then for the 2012 European Cup in Austria. All the same, with the 43-4 goal difference, Löw’s side set a national record for the most successful qualification campaign ever.
Nordtveit’s Norway and Kaderabek’s Czech Republic were already certain of missing out on the World Cup finals, but both sides ended their campaigns on a high. Norway beat Northern Ireland 1-0, while the Czech Republic defeated San Marino 5-0. This means the Czech Republic finish third in the group, two points ahead of Norway in fourth.
