4th place and Champions League play-offs for TSG

No goals in Sinsheim, but TSG have secured a fourth-place finish – the reward for a wonderful season. This campaign will also go down in the history books for Hoffe, as the draw with FC Augsburg means Nagelsmann’s men have gone a whole season unbeaten at home – something the club has never done before.

Personnel and tactics:

Due to a concussion he suffered against Dortmund, Benni Hübner was forced to miss the final game of the season. The defender was still suffering from headaches this week so doctors recommended he sit out. Just like in Bremen, Nagelsmann opted for Ermin Bicakcic to play in the back-three, meaning he lined up alongside Kevin Vogt and Niklas Süle in defence in front of goalkeeper Oliver Baumann. By completing the game, it meant the goalkeeper played every single minute of football possible this season for TSG. Sandro Wagner, Mark Uth, Andrej Kramaric and Adam Szalai provided the attacking threat, while Kerem Demirbay and Sebastian Rudy, who was playing his last game in TSG colours, operated in defensive midfield.

After almost an hour, Hoffenheim made a double switch, taking off Kerem Demirbay for Nadiem Amiri, while Primin Schwegler entered the fray for Mart Uth. Coach Julian Nagelsmann decided not to used his final available substitution on this occasion.

The moment of the match:

What does this 0-0 draw with FC Augsburg mean? That TSG have remained unbeaten at home for a whole season for the first time in their history. The WIRSOL Rhein-Neckar-Arena is officially a fortress!

The number of the match: 25 + 12

The final outcome? Actually, it doesn’t matter. TSG have had their most successful season ever. Julian Nagelsman’s team have earned the highest amount of points in Hoffe's history, celebrated more wins than in any other season, and finished in the club’s highest ever position in the Bundesliga. All of this was only possible thanks to a legendary effort from our 25 players and the incredible support from our twelfth man. Thank you team, and thank you to the fans for this unforgettable season!
