TSG exit DFB Cup in extra time
Personnel and tactics:
Julian Nagelsmann made one change to his starting eleven that beat Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 at the weekend – this change saw Lukas Rupp return to the side as Pavel Kaderabek missed out due to suspension. In front of goalkeeper Oliver Baumann was a three-man defence of Niklas Süle, Kevin Vogt and Benjamin Hübner, with Lukas Rupp and Steven Zuber taking the wing-back roles. Sebastian Rudy, Nadiem Amiri and Kerem Demirbay were the three central midfielders, as Andrej Kramaric partnered Sandro Wagner upfront.
In the 64th minute, Jeremy Toljan replaced Lukas Rupp like-for-like at wing-back. Shortly before the end of regular time, Nagelsmann brought on Eduardo Vargas for Nadiem Amiri and the coach then made his final change in the 103rd minute, as Adam Szalai took Benjamin Hübner’s place. Even though TSG tried everything until the end of the game, they couldn’t find an equaliser to force penalties and even when they did get the ball in he back of the net, the strike was ruled out for offside.
Moment of the Match:
It may be tough for us to say it, but Marcel Risse’s equaliser was a really stunning strike. If it doesn’t win goal of the month then we don’t know what will.
Number of the Match: 4
TSG currently occupy fourth place in the league and still boast a run of four straight wins in this competition. The lads will have to stomach this defeat quickly as they’ll go again against Hertha on Sunday at home. Chin up, lads.
