Szalai with a brace but Schär gets the win
Sebastian Rudy - Germany / Pavel Kaderabek - Czech Republic
While one of the two Hoffenheim players watched Germany's 3-0 win from the sidelines, the other played the full 90 minutes. Sebastian Rudy was not selected for the clash with the Czech Republic, for whom his club team-mate Pavel Kaderabek featured at right-back. Kaderabek and his side could do little to stop the Germans however, as Thomas Müller scored twice and Toni Kroos once to seal a comfortable win for the hosts.
Dennis Geiger - U19s
The German U19s also won their second game in European Championship qualifying, securing a spot in the last qualifying round with something to spare. Dennis Geiger came on as a late substitute and played the final ten minutes as his team beat Albania 3-2. Geiger also played the full 90 minutes of the previous fixture.
Fabian Schär - Switzerland/ Adam Szalai - Hungary
Both TSG players were chosen in the starting XI for their teams. Fabian Schär played at centre-back for Switzerland while Adam Szalai was up front for Hungary. It was a direct duel between the two Hoffenheim men in a match where the momentum was constantly changing between the two sides. Before Haris Seferovic gave Switzerland the lead in the 51st minute, Schär had wasted a great chance to head his team in front. But only two minutes after the Swiss made the breakthrough, Szalai brought the scores level. Yet it was Switzerland again who got the next goal to make it 2-1. Ricardo Rodriguez was the man on target, but Szalai responded and scored once more in the 72nd minute to make it 2-2. However it was Schär who enjoyed the better ending to the match as Valentin Stocker won it for Switzerland in the 89th minute. Both Schӓr and Szalai featured for the entire 90 minutes of the match.
Ermin Bicakcic - Bosnia
Ermin Bicakcic was also in World Cup qualifying action for his country, playing with Bosnia against Belgium. Although the defender started against the Red Devils, his side had no chance in this encounter. Goals from Eden Hazard, Alderweireld, Lukaku and a Spahic own goal meant the match resulted in a 4-0 defeat for Bicakcic’s side. Bosnia played Bicakcic in the back four, where he remained for the duration of the game.
Süle, Toljan, Amiri - U21s
Three TSG players were involved for their national U21s teams, one in the starting eleven against the Russia U21s, one in the squad, and one in the stands. Niklas Süle started for Germany U21s at centre-back and played the entire 90 minutes in a 4-3 win. Jeremy Toljan watched the victory from the bench, and Nadiem Amiri was not included the squad. But there was reason for all of them to celebrate: After goals from Serge Gnabry, David Selke and a brace from Maximilian Arnold, Germany just about scraped the win. More importantly, the team earned themselves a ticket to the European Championships in 2017.
Philipp Ochs - U20s
“The opposition were simply the better team today. We have to accept that,” said Guido Streichsbier after the second match for the U20s at the Four Nations tournament. His side lost 3-1 to hosts England, but the match did start well for the Germans. They took the lead after just three minutes and it was Philipp Ochs who got the goal, finding the back of the net with a fine free-kick to get his second of the tournament. Despite going in front, the team could not keep up the momentum and goals from Ademola Lookman and Dominic Calvert-Lewin turned the match around. Germany pushed for the equaliser in the second half but England were clinical and increased their lead again through Calvert-Lewin to win the game 3-1.
