Wolfsburg match reaction
Julian Nagelsmann: There were many different phases to the game. We were the better team to begin with and we should have taken the lead. After about 15 minutes, the opposition then got themselves back into the game due to individual errors. You could tell we didn’t look comfortable. Wolfsburg were the better team until half time, but after that, the match became very open. Both teams missed some big chances in the first period of the second half, while I thought we were very impressive from the 75th minute. The players really wanted to win. We outnumbered them on one or two occasions but didn’t finish well. We were much better at the back today than we have been recently.
Dieter Hecking: The fans witnessed a match in which both teams were desperate to win. In terms of how we played, we have clearly improved compared to the first two matches of the season. We had some really good periods of play in the game. Our opponents looked shaky at times and we should have scored. It was an open contest in the second half. I felt very on edge. Hoffenheim then started to create more goalscoring opportunities again. Had one of them gone in, I’d be here speaking about a defeat despite a good performance. On the whole, I'm satisfied; we made up for the few mistakes we made.
Mario Gomez: We played very well. Our pressing was effective and we created a lot of chances. At the end of the day, we just couldn’t find the back of the net. In my view, it was our best match so far. We will take that with us going forward.
Sandro Wagner: I think we had enough good chances to decide the game in our favour. We were desperate to get the three points, especially in front of our home fans. Today was just one of those days where the ball simply won't go into the back of the net. Wolfsburg also had some good chances, so it was a bit of a crazy game with both teams having opportunities to take the three points.
Oliver Baumann: The fact that we kept a clean sheet is the most positive news of the day. The game was on a knife edge and ultimately could have gone either way. Both sides had good chances to score. We have taken a point and remain unbeaten which is another positive. We still need to keep working hard on our defensive play though. Nevertheless, it was definitely a step in the right direction following the game against Mainz.
Ermin Bicakcic: We had one or two good chances to score, but so did Wolfsburg. Both teams were very strong going forward. Coming away from the game with one point is okay, but we would have preferred to have taken all three. As a defender, I’m obviously happy that we didn’t end up conceding. It was a much better defensive performance than last week, that’s for sure! But once again, Oliver Baumann was an absolute rock in goal.
