Hamburger SV match reaction
Julian Nagelsmann: That definitely wasn’t a great performance from us, although we had a lot of space to place football. We didn’t manage to take advantage of that in either half. After the break we were pegged back in our half and were lucky to make it 3-1 on the counter. Oliver Baumann made multiple world class saves to keep us in the game. That save against Gegoritsch alone was simply sensational.
Bruno Labbadia: We started the game very well – I’m thinking back to the Ilicevic chance after one minute. We were doing well but then got hit on the counter. We had a lot of chances that we didn’t make the most of. Ultimately it all boils down to not finishing our chances.
Andrej Kramaric: That was a really important performance and I am proud – of myself, of my team, of everyone who works for the club. We showed great character. It was a difficult away match. We held together – that’s the only way we will stay in the league. We deserved the three points.
Kevin Volland: We’re on a good path. The win today has done us a lot of good. Knut Kircher is one of the best refs in Germany. In my opinion it was a red card. We spoke about it and he explained his decision tomorrow. Luckily we converted the penalty. Overall it was not our best performance. We discussed that at half time. We needed to score more goals, but didn’t take advantage of enough counters.
Oliver Baumann: It’s wonderful to win away from home. It was an intensive, at times fiery game, in which stay calm. We scored some really nice goals, but we also gave our all in defence. But we also made mistakes and Hamburg got a lot of chances from that. I am happy with the win and happy that I could help my team.
