Markus Gisdol extends contract until 2018

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim have extended head coach Markus Gisdol's contract by two years until 30th June 2018. His previous deal was due to expire at the end of next season. Gisdol has been in charge at the club since 2nd April 2013.

“We're delighted to have reached an agreement,” said TSG chairman Peter Rettig, who led the negotiations. “The club went into the talks with the clear aim of carrying on along this path that we're on and continuing the successful collaboration with Markus Gisdol in the long term. The key was to take the necessary time over it and not to be put under pressure by anyone or anything,” added Rettig. This latest agreement with Gisdol, as well as director of football Alexander Rosen's contract extension earlier this year, are “a sign of the stability that the whole club is enjoying and aims to make part of the future too.”

According to Markus Gisdol, the talks didn't just “provide the result we were all after, but also allows us to quietly go about putting our mid- to long-term squad plans together. That's even more important as we have the ambitious goal of establishing TSG 1899 Hoffenheim as a staple in one of the strongest leagues in the world, continuing to develop the team and also playing attractive football,” said the 45-year-old coach.

Alexander Rosen feels that Markus Gisdol's contract extension is “the next step along a path that has been shaped by a mutual feeling of trust.” The director of football also believes that “tying down a coach with his expertise, not to mention his approach to team leadership, for the long term is of great significance and allows the work that began in April 2013 to be continued further.”
