Bayer 04 match reaction

We spoke to Markus Gisdol, Roger Schmidt and a few of the players after TSG's 1-0 loss to Bayer Leverkusen.

Markus Gisdol:Both teams had a similar plan. It was an even game but we didn't take our clear-cut chances. If we'd taken the lead then things could have possibly gone differently. But we have to admit that Leverkusen were a bit better than us.

Roger Schmidt:We are very pleased that we were able to win this tough away game. We created a few chances before half time but we were unable to make the most of them. It was clear throughout that the team wanted to win. The fact that Kießling scored here is a story that you couldn't have scripted. I'm happy for him.

Andreas Beck:That was the final home game of the year and obviously we wanted to win. Unfortunately, we were unable to do that. Overall, the game was very disjointed and full of errors. I don't think that it was very impressive for the fans. Both teams didn't want to walk into the other team's trap. Now we'll start concentrating on the game in Berlin on Sunday. It'll be tough but we want to head into the break on the back of a positive result.

Kevin Volland:It was an open game in which both teams had opportunities. It was also a game that was going to be decided by one goal. We had chances but Leverkusen took one of theirs. That's very bitter for us. We want to come away from the game in Berlin with all three points as then we'll have had a good first half to the season. But there's still a gap between us and the teams above us.

Ermin Bicakcic:We game into the game with a plan. We created good chances over the 90 minutes and therefore the loss is even more disappointing. At the end of the day, we gave Leverkusen too much room in places. We fought hard in what was an intense and fiery match. We'll get over it quickly because there's only a few days before our next game in Berlin.
