Fourth friendly, fourth clean sheet, fourth win

TSG played their fourth friendly in the space of eight days on Sunday afternoon, taking on FC Speyer 09. Markus Gisdol's side won 8-0, despite the uncomfortable heat and humidity.

Robert Firmino opened the scoring after just six minutes, finishing neatly from Jannik Vestergaard's flick-on. A mere four minutes later, new signing Pirmin Schwegler doubled Hoffenheim's advantage, before a quiet ten minutes followed.

Firmino struck again though in the 22nd minute. Adam Szalai chested the ball on to the Brazilian and the Bundesliga's second top points-scorer last season duly hit a volley into the top corner with his left boot – the term “wonder goal” certainly wouldn't be out of place. Less than 60 seconds later, Szalai grabbed a goal for himself. The Hungary international was fouled in the area and converted the resulting penalty. 23 minutes gone, 4-0 to TSG. Gisdol's men then dropped their intensity somewhat leading up to half time.

Following the interval, it was back to business as usual for Hoffenheim. Speyer could barely escape their own half and further goals from Pirmin Schwegler, Sven Schipplock, Janik Haberer and Grischa Prömel followed in the second half to ensure a more than comfortable 8-0 win.

Just like on Saturday, manager Markus Gisdol changed almost his entire team after 60 minutes to try and give as many players as possible some playing time at this stage of pre-season.
