Joint clean-up with TSG Hoffenheim and NABU Sinsheim
Far too often, waste is simply thrown away carelessly and pollutes the environment, including highly toxic substances such as cigarette butts. The city of Sinsheim therefore recently called for the "Clean Sinsheim" clean-up campaign, in which numerous schools and clubs also took part. The supporters not only want to contribute to protecting the environment and creating a positive urban landscape, but also to draw attention to how much rubbish is disposed of improperly.
In this context, TSG Hoffenheim and NABU Sinsheim also invited people to collect rubbish together on Saturday (29 March) before the Bundesliga match against FC Augsburg. The initiative arose from the ‘Road to Zero Waste Forum’, which TSG and PreZero recently organised in the PreZero Arena, and at the suggestion of the TSG fans' sustainability working group. The Zero Waste Forum also resulted in a joint donation of €1,899, which was handed over to NABU Sinsheim on site on Saturday, by dispensing with the usual giveaways to participants.
Around four hours before kick-off, the volunteers met at the car park of the Sinsheim outdoor pool. From there, the participants were led in five different groups along different routes to the PreZero Arena. Equipped with high-visibility waistcoats, rubbish grabbers, gloves and rubbish bags, the volunteers cleared the paths through Sinsheim of litter and rubbish lying around. In addition to some unusual items such as an exhaust pipe, shoes and a large tarpaulin, a lot of everyday rubbish such as cigarette butts, bottles and plastic packaging was also collected.
After almost two hours, all the groups met at the fan centre at the PreZero Arena, collected their full bin bags and shared their most unusual finds. At the end of the campaign, the participants were given pretzels and drinks. Both the Sustainability Working Group and NABU Sinsheim presented their work at their respective stands and invited participants to make seed discs, among other things. Everyone was refreshed in time for the kick-off of TSG's home match against FC Augsburg at 15:30 CET, meaning TSG fans who had taken part in the campaign were able to support their team.
"We are delighted with the positive response and the fact that together we were able to make a valuable contribution to environmental protection in Sinsheim and spread the spirit of our zero waste vision," says Anneke Siebert, sustainability officer at TSG Hoffenheim.
