Dietmar Hopp was born in Heidelberg on 26 April 1940. He grew up in Hoffenheim, wore the TSG shirt himself from 1954 onwards and still holds his home village close to his heart today. His professional success did nothing to change this, with Hopp entering previously unimagined dimensions by founding the world-renowned company SAP. He subsequently became a founder, investor and sponsor of countless charitable projects.

"I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to Dietmar Hopp on his 85th birthday on 26 April," said Jörg Albrecht, the Chairman of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim e.V., adding: "I hope, dear Dietmar, that you can still continue to perform this role in good health for a long time to come. Everyone knows that you carry TSG in your heart and we all hope along with you that we can end this season in a positive manner by keeping our first team in the league over the remaining four games of the season."

Hopp's involvement, which has taken TSG Hoffenheim from the depths of amateur football to the UEFA Champions League, is an unparalleled success story. "It would go beyond the scope of this article to list his achievements for the club, the city and the region, for the people here in the Kraichgau, whether young or old. One thing is certain: TSG Hoffenheim would not exist in their current form without his outstanding commitment and vision. All TSG fans owe this man a great debt of gratitude," Albrecht continued.

The management of TSG Hoffenheim also addressed the jubilarian with a personal message:

"Dietmar Hopp has shaped our TSG like no other with his passion, his connection to the region and his incomparable down-to-earthness. His commitment to sport, youth, science and society is unique in Germany – and far beyond. We would like to thank him from the bottom of our hearts for his foresight, his attitude and his great benevolence – as a supporter, a trailblazer and a person who always put people first. Happy 85th birthday, dear Dietmar!"
