The TSG x COPA journey
TSG Hoffenheim and COPA are revolutionising talent spotting in the USA. Together, they are opening doors and creating opportunities for players who would otherwise be overlooked. At the age of just 17, Ricky had no offers from colleges or MLS academies – but his COPA score rating told another story. Compared to over 400 NCAA Division 1 players with an average age of 20.1, he was a top performer in technical, physical and cognitive data points.
Thanks to his so-called COPA score, Ricky was given a trial training session with us in the Kraichgau. It is a prime example of how objective data can be used to identify talent, proving that talent spotting exists beyond conventional scouting methods.
This has led to a documentary, which is well worth watching, about Ricky's journey and how data is changing the future of player spotting in football. TSG has been working with COPA since the start of January 2024.
