Geiger: "I have no words"
Leo Østigård: "We conceded too easily. We need to change that, and quickly - that wasn't good enough. We're in a difficult situation, but we need to keep our heads held high and work hard. It isn't what I would've wanted for my first game. It's part of football, but you can either crawl into a hole or stay positive to turn the situation around. That's exactly what we need to do, and I'll do my best to help."
Dennis Geiger: "I have no words, honestly. It really is so disappointing. The way we started the game, the first 25 to 30 minutes, it was unbelievable. Once we had gone a goal down, we were just trying to catch up. It completely threw us off. The last 15 minutes before half time were looking good. We've had relatively good games recently, apart from in Leverkusen. Maybe we were asking for too much today. We knew what was at stake. With that performance, it's going to be difficult.
Marius Bülter: "It's a bit embarrassing to give a performance like that in an important game. It's completely and utterly down to us. We need to take a long, hard look at ourselves. If we keep playing the way we played today, we won't win any games. We played badly from the very beginning, we didn't get involved in any tackles, and we made far too many mistakes. The ten minutes before half time were the only good part of the game. In the second half, we gave up on ourselves - that was embarrassing at the end. The 0-4 was deserved. We need to address things openly, we need to get past it together. Every single player needs to ask himself whether he's doing everything he can to get out of this situation."
Christian Ilzer: "It was a big setback for us. Today it wasn't nearly enough. Union showed us today what you need in a game of football. You don't just need the ball, you need passion and energy, and in that respect they were just much better than we were. In the past few weeks we've showed that we can bring a completely different kind of spirit to the pitch. But that didn't happen today, and the result was that we just conceded goals again. It was clear again today that conceding goals has an effect on us. I hope that what happened today will be the final wake-up call for us. It's important that we show a clear response in our training, and in the game against Bremen. But we need to stick together. We need to find solutions quickly to make sure our performances aren't so lethargic."
Steffen Baumgart (Coach 1. FC Union Berlin): "We're pleased with what was a very good and very important away game. We played a very good first 30 minutes, then Hoffenheim kept pressing until half-time. Our two changes during half time made our defence more solid, and then the game began to take a course which we were very happy with. At the end of the day, we won an away game which was important for us. Now it's onto the next one."
