Hard-fought draw in Augsburg

Spoils shared in Augsburg: TSG Hoffenheim have drawn 0-0 away to FC Augsburg. In the second half in particular, TSG played better than at the beginning of the match – but without really creating major chances. It thus remained 0-0, in part thanks to some strong Oliver Baumann saves in the closing stages.

The line-up

Head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo made three changes to the starting XI compared to the 2-2 draw with Olympique Lyon: Pavel Kadeřábek, David Jurásek and Marius Bülter came in for Valentin Gendrey, Alexander Prass and Max Moerstedt.

The scenario

TSG Hoffenheim, who were in 16th place in the Bundesliga, were away to 12th-placed Augsburg. Three points separated the clubs prior to kick-off – and it stayed that way.

Number of the game: 2

TSG kept a clean sheet for the second successive away match in the Bundesliga. Hoffenheim had also played out a 0-0 draw in Heidenheim.

Moment of the match

The 80th minute: Augsburg almost took the lead out of nothing. A flick played Steve Mounie through and he shot at goal. The ball took a deflection, but Baumann showed very strong reactions and kept the scores level. A double-chance for Augsburg followed directly afterwards, but the TSG shot-stopper also thwarted shots from Samuel Essende and Mert Kömür.

Record of the day

Pavel Kadeřábek fouled Dimitris Giannoulis in an aerial challenge after only eight seconds. The Czech was shown a yellow card for the incident – it was the fastest booking in Bundesliga history.

Outlook

The Bundesliga campaign will pause next week. TSG Hoffenheim will resume action with a home game against RB Leipzig on 23 November (Saturday at 15:30 CEST).

Very strong from Baumann
