A hard-fought draw in Heidenheim

It was all square on Sunday evening, as TSG Hoffenheim and 1. FC Heidenheim played out a 0-0 draw. After a quiet first half, there were significantly more chances after the break, with both goalkeepers making strong saves. In the end the spoils were deservedly shared.

Line-up

Head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo made two changes to the starting XI that lost 2-0 away to FC Porto. Kevin Akpoguma and Marius Bülter took the place of Arthur Chaves and Jacob Bruun Larsen.

The scenario

TSG Hoffenheim came into the game placed 15th in the table with seven points after seven matchdays, four places and two points behind their hosts 1. FC Heidenheim.

Moment of the match:

In the second minute of stoppage time, TSG almost landed the lucky punch: Adam Hložek played in Mergim Berisha, who was forced slightly wide. His shot into the near corner was deflected out for a corner off the shoulder of Kevin Müller.

Number of the game: 100

Anton Stach made his 100th Bundesliga appearance – his 39th for TSG Hoffenheim.

Best save:

In the 71st minute, the Heidenheim fans were ready to celebrate, but Oliver Baumann made a fantastic save with his foot to keep out Maximilian Breunig's effort from three metres out which looked destined for the back of the net.

Outlook

TSG Hoffenheim are next in action on Wednesday, when coach Pellegrino Matarazzo's team host second-tier side 1. FC Nürnberg in the second round of the DFB Pokal. Kick-off at the PreZero Arena is scheduled for 20:45 CET.

Match highlights

17. Min.

Grillitsch slips

Bischof sees that Grillitsch is in acres of space in the box and plays the ball to him. But the Austrian loses his footing at the key moment and a huge chance goes amiss.

48. Min.

Grillitsch fires over

Bischof turns on the edge of the box and slips a pass to Grillitsch. His shot from 20 metres out is full of venom, but whizzes just over the crossbar.

52. Min.

A huge chance to take the lead

By far the biggest chance of the game: Hložek wins the ball and plays it on to Bülter, who eludes his marker with a deft feint and fires a shot on goal. Müller is able to make the save. His near-post effort was slightly too imprecise there, the far-corner would have been the better option.

60. Min.

Scienza fires wide

Out of nowhere, Heidenheim have a chance. TSG fail to clear the ball from their own box. Scienza then has a chat to shoot. He goes for the far-corner but it's just wide of the mark.

71. Min.

TSG ride their luck

Heidenheim have to take the lead there: Breuneg is completely unmarked with the empty net gaping. Baumann dives across the face of goal and somehow manages to force the ball up onto the crossbar. Wanner should finish on the follow-up, but his effort flies over the target.

81. Min.

Strong from Nsoki

Conteh is played through on goal after a long ball, but he takes too long and Nsoki is able to track back and get a leg in the way at the last-minute.

90 + 2. Min.

A late chance for three points

A last-minute opportunity to get the win: Hložek plays in Berisha, who is through on goal but forced out slightly wide. He fires a shot to the near-post but Müller is able to get himself in the way and send the ball out for a corner.
