Defeat after half-time lead
Line-up
Head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo did not make any changes to his team compared to the 3-1 victory against FC Augsburg and kept his trust in the same starting line-up as the week before.
The scenario
TSG went into Matchday 29 in eighth place in the table with 36 points, while 1. FSV Mainz were in 16th position with 23 points.
Moment of the match
Mainz's two-goal salvo: the hosts turned the game around in the space of four minutes at the beginning of the second period. The unmarked Jonathan Burkardt first headed home (47), then Philipp Mwene added another via a deflected shot (51).
Number of the game: 24
The 4-1 defeat away to 1. FSV Mainz 05 was the 24th Bundesliga game in a row in which TSG Hoffenheim have conceded at least one goal. In the process, TSG have equalled their own negative record from April 2013 to January 2014. TSG last kept a clean sheet in a 2-0 win at Union Berlin in September.
Gesture of the game
To TSG's astonishment, referee Florian Zwayer opted to award a corner-kick to Mainz in the 11th minute. But striker Jonathan Burkardt admitted that he had been the last to touch the ball. That's fair play!
Outlook
TSG Hoffenheim will welcome Borussia Mönchengladbach to the PreZero Arena next week. Kick-off will be at 15:30 CEST.

Match highlights
Burkardt narrowly wide
The ball is played to Burkardt 20 metres out and he fires on the turn right-footed towards the far corner. The ball rolls just past the back post. That was close.
Kadeřábek opens the scoring
TSG launch a controlled attack and the ball is in the back of the net straightaway: Kramarić is not properly closed down and crosses the ball in behind the defence. Kadeřábek runs in, beats Zentner to the ball and heads into the net.
Kohr just wide
The next clear-cut chance for the home team: Kohr is fed on the edge of the penalty area and targets the far corner with his shot, but Baumann beats the effort away.
Burkardt restores parity
That was too easy: Mainz have far too much space and cross into the middle, where Burkardt is also completely unmarked and heads home easily.
Mainz double-chance
Double opportunity for Mainz: The home team take a short corner and Mwene gets a shot away; his attempt takes a deflection and leaves Baumann without a chance.
The third Mainz goal
TSG are hit on the counter. Hoffenheim lose the ball after a corner of their own and Mainz sprint forward in numbers. Baumann clears a low cross with Burkardt lurking, but Gruda subsequently heads home from close range.
It's 4-1
TSG are inviting Mainz to score goals: Hoffenheim lose the ball on the edge of their own box, Onisiwo says thanks and fires into the left corner.
