No points to start the year

Chances not taken and goals conceded at the back: TSG Hoffenheim lost 3-0 (1-0) away to FC Bayern Munich. In the final match of the first half of the season, TSG fell behind to a Jamal Musiala goal in the 18th minute. Hoffenheim performed well for long spells and had numerous opportunities to equalise in the second period, but the game was over as a contest once Musiala doubled the scoring (70) and Grischa Prömel was sent off for a second bookable offence (74). Harry Kane rounded off the scoring at 3-0 in the 90th minute.

Line-up

Head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo made four changes to the starting line-up that drew 3-3 against SV Darmstadt 98 last time out. Florian Grillitsch, Stanley Nsoki, Maximilian Beier and Wout Weghorst started in place of John Anthony Brooks, Kevin Vogt, Umut Tohumcu and Ihlas Bebou.

The scenario

TSG went into the matchday in sixth place in the table with 24 points. FC Bayern Munich were in second spot with 38 points.

Moment of the match

The three chances in the space of two minutes: TSG had three good opportunities to level the scores between the 63rd and 65th minutes, but Maximilian Beier (63) and Andrej Kramarić (64) were kept out by Manuel Neuer, while Beier struck the bar (65). Instead, Jamal Musiala decided the game with a goal to make it 2-0 five minutes later (70).

Number of the game: 20

TSG Hoffenheim had scored at least one goal in 20 Bundesliga matches on the bounce. That run is over following the 3-0 defeat in Munich. However, it is a TSG record.

Emotional tribute

The most emotional moment of the evening occurred before kick-off: the entire stadium observed a minute's silence in memory of Franz Beckenbauer, who passed away on Sunday.

Outlook

TSG Hoffenheim have another away game next week: TSG will visit SC Freiburg in their first game of the second half-season on Saturday (15:30 CET / Live Ticker at tsg-hoffenheim.de).

Match highlights

18. Min.

Musiala scores for Bayern

That was too easy: after a corner is taken short, Musiala is afforded too much space in the box and shoots from a position on the right. The ball goes off the inside of the left post and into the net.

39. Min.

Too central from Kramarić

TSG’s best chance: Bülter receives a great diagonal pass from Stach and passes from the edge the box into the middle to Kramarić, who is in a good position but shoots too centrally and fires straight at Neuer.

58. Min.

TSG get lucky

That was close: Prömel loses the ball in midfield, Musiala accelerates and shoots from distance. His shot thunders against the inside of the post and Kane doesn’t strike the follow-up properly.

63. Min.

TSG’s biggest chance

What a chance: the second ball falls to TSG following a corner-kick. Kramaric crosses towards the back post and picks out the head of Kaderabek, who lays it off to Beier, but Neuer prevents him from scoring from point-blank range.

64. Min.

That must be the equaliser

The next big opportunity straightaway: Beier flicks a long ball perfectly into the path of Kramaric, who is through on Neuer but is unfortunately denied by the keeper. That shoud've been the equaliser.

65. Min.

Beier strikes the bar

This cannot be happening: this time Kramarić flicks the ball on with his head into the path of Beier, who is through on Neuer but can only hit the bar.

70. Min.

Musiala bags brace

That’s how it goes in football: don’t take your chances up front and concede a goal at the back. Sané squares to Musiala, who only has to slot home from close range.

Kane right at the death

Now it’s a flattering scoreline: the ball is threaded through to Kane, who turns towards goal and scores. Baumann gets to it but can't keep it out.
