Fond memories of Schalke 04

This Sunday (19:30 CET/ liveticker on tsg-hoffenheim.de), TSG Hoffenheim meet FC Schalke 04 for the third time this season - and will be targeting a hat-trick of victories after winning the two previous meetings. Hoffenheim will hope to build on recent successes, but this Schalke side are an entirely different proposition than they were in the first half of the season.

Did you know that…

…Schalke are welcome guests in the Kraichgau?

TSG Hoffenheim have played a total of 14 competitive games at home to the Royal Blues. Only one of these have ended in defeat for the home team, who have won eight and drawn five.

…both games against Schalke 04 earlier in the season were clean-cut affairs?

In October 2022, the two teams went head-to-head twice within the space of five days. First TSG secured a 3-0 win away in Gelsenkirchen in the Bundesliga, then, four days later, Hoffenheim racked up a 5-1 win in the DFB-Pokal.

…S04 have been in good form away from home recently?

The team coached by Thomas Reis have improved their away record recently and are unbeaten in their last four games on the road (one win and three draws).

…Schalke have been one of the best sides defensively in the second half of the season?

In the first round of fixtures, the Gelsenkirchen club conceded a league-high 41 goals. In the second half of the season, however, goalkeeper Ralf Fährmann has only had to pick the ball out the back of his net on seven occasions thus far. Only Union Berlin (six goals) have conceded fewer.

…TSG haven't kept a clean sheet in their last 16 games?

Hoffenheim goalkeeper Oliver Baumann was beaten again in Bremen. In what might be a good omen for Sunday's game, the last time TSG kept a clean sheet was in their 3-0 win away to Schalke earlier in the season.
