Samassékou misses out on quarter-finals with Mali

Mali were dramatically beaten 6-5 by Equatorial Guinea on penalties in the round of 16. Both normal time and extra time had finished goalless. The TSG Hoffenheim midfielder was an unused substitute. Samassékou made the starting XI for the opening two games but missed the final group game with an injury problem.

Mali had comfortably qualified for the knockout stages as the Group F winners with seven points, but they are now heading home. Chin up, Diadie. Get home safely!
