Pentke extends contract with TSG
"The contract extension shows the high regard in which we hold Philipp, which he deserves due to his daily work, his character and his impeccable performances," said Alexander Rosen. The TSG director of football believes Pentke is "an important member of our goalkeeping team who proved his reliability at the start of the year. When our regular goalkeeper Oli Baumann was out for several weeks with injury, Philipp was a safe pair of hands on the pitch."
"Philipp demonstrates his extraordinary character in the work we do together on a daily basis," said goalkeeping coach Michael Rechner. "He's an absolute team player who accepts a not-always rewarding role with great enthusiasm," said Rechner in praise of a 35-year-old who he deems to be a "model professional, who not only demonstrates a highly professional attitude in all areas that are important for a goalkeeper, but who is also a great asset for TSG on a human level due to his positivity."
Pentke moved to TSG Hoffenheim from second-tier Jahn Regensburg in summer 2019 and assumed the role of back-up shot-stopper to regular keeper Oliver Baumann. The Freiberg native enjoyed spells with Dynamo Dresden and 1860 Munich among others at youth level, before making his breakthrough with Chemnitzer FC in the third tier. He helped Jahn Regensburg gain promotion to the Bundesliga 2 and was the first-choice goalkeeper as they beat the drop in two successive seasons. At TSG, he has made five appearances in the Bundesliga and two in the DFB Cup.
