First friendly against SV Wehen Wiesbaden
SV Wehen Wiesbaden still held hopes of a miraculous escape from relegation going into the last day of the Bundesliga 2 season. Unfortunately for the Hesse-based club, a 5-3 win over FC St. Pauli was not enough to avoid the drop down into the third tier. Relegation meant that coach Rüdiger Rehm's side's adventure in the Bundesliga 2 ended after just one season.
The main reason SVWW failed to stay up was their leaky defence: the total of 65 goals conceded was more than any other team in the division. The club has now entered a period of upheaval. 17 players have departed. The much-changed squad will now be aiming for an immediate return to the second tier.
Reunion for Hübner
Benjamin Hübner will be reunited with some familiar faces. The central-defender came through the youth set-up at SV Wehen and made his professional debut for the Hessians. Hübner signed for TSG in the summer of 2016 after spells at VfR Aalen and FC Ingolstadt.
While this will be the first warm-up match for TSG as they prepare for the 2020/21 season, and the very first game under new head coach Sebastian Hoeness, their opponents have already played one friendly: Wehen Wiesbaden faced SpVgg Greuther Fürth on Saturday, with the two sides playing out a 2-2 draw.
Thursday's match (kick-off 15:30 CET) will take place at FC Zuzenhausen's home ground. Unfortunately the Coronavirus means that no spectators will be allowed to attend the game.
