Nagelsmann: "We are well prepared"
Julian Nagelsmann on …
… the personnel situation:
"Joelinton suffered from fluid in his muscles before the game against Donetsk. He needed a break and because of his intensive playing style, it was about weighing up the chance and risk. Now the muscle issues are resolved and he'll be able to cause Schalke some damage. Harvard Nordveit and David Otto are suffering from swelling around their metatarsals and are likely to be out for a while. Dennis Geiger is playing with the U23s today, which will be his last test, before he's back on the big stage. He has no muscle problems and his stamina is looking good."
… the opponent's tactics:
"Schalke has been playing all kinds of systems and defensive formations, so we've prepared for a lot. They have a lot of injuries amongst their attacking players, so we can't predict their starting line-up for certain. Without going into detail, we're prepared."
… seeing Domenico Tedesco again:
"We are in contact, but not that often. We have a completely normal professional relationship. In sport, you look down the middle, you focus on what happens on the pitch and on the table. But I don't value that, we've had similar situations here at Hoffenheim and managed to get back on the right track. Schalke is on the right road and I can see a lot of parallels in the development of our two clubs.
"We want to get back into the Champions League"
… Champions League elimination:
"It's still affecting the atmosphere. I've never been so devastated about a defeat. When I started here in 2016, I had a checklist in my head of what I wanted to achieve. I didn't manage to make it through the winter in the Cup and in the Champions League. I try to be successful. I haven't managed it on an international level, one win in 13 is bad. But I'm still only 31. The players were also devastated, but they made a good impression in the training sessions. Our focus now naturally lies on Schalke. We want to get back into the Champions League."
The opponent's form
Schalke didn't have a great start to the season and are on 14th place after 12 games. In Cup competitions, they're doing a lot better. In the DFB Cup and the Champions League, S04 have reached the round of sixteen.
Previous fixtures
The head to head between these two teams after 21 competitive games in both the Bundesliga and DFB Cup is equal. Both teams have won eight games each. TSG lost at home only once in the last ten encounters (five wines, four draws).
