Back to the mountains for training camp

Having already completed one successful pre-season training camp in Garmisch-Partenkirchen a fortnight ago, TSG Hoffenheim are preparing for another in Windischgarsten, where they will spend a week starting Sunday 29 July.

TSG Hoffenheim will be heading back to Windischgarsten again this year as part of their preparations for the new season. It was in the Austrian municipality that the squad gathered in the summer of 2017 to lay the foundations for their most successful Bundesliga season ever, which culminated in qualification for the group stages of the Champions League.

The TSG contingent will begin their journey to Austria on Sunday 29 July, with their return scheduled for a week later on 5 August. Another friendly has been arranged during their training camp: on Saturday 4 August (16:00 CET), Hoffenheim will face Italian top-flight side Chievo at the Huber-Arena, which belongs to FC Wels.

Impressive panorama

Some special views await the TSG first team in Windischgarsten. The market town is situated at an altitude of 602 metres in the Traunviertel region and is surrounded by the mountains Großer Pyhrgas (2,244 m), Hoher Nock (1,963 m) and Warscheneck (2,389 m). The Upper Austrian town is part of the Pyhrn-Priel tourist region and has 2,392 inhabitants.

Goalkeeper Oliver Baumann was left impressed by his visit to Windischgarsten with TSG last summer. "It's absolutely beautiful, with a view of the mountains. The place is super. We have top conditions to hold a good training camp."

Last year's camp saw the team get involved in some non-footballing activities, including a mountain bike tour and an afternoon on a high-rope climbing course. Coach Julian Nagelsmann was entirely satisfied with the stay in Austria ahead of the 2017/18 campaign, saying: "We had some excellent experiences off the pitch and bonded as a team."

There will one or two extra activities incorporated into the tightly-packed training schedule this time around too – pictures and videos of those will be available on TSG's social media channels and here on achtzehn99.de.
