“Nati” – Debut for Zuber, Bicakcic scores for Bosnia
Bosnia & Herzegovina vs. Gibraltar
Bosnia celebrated an emphatic 5-0 victory over minnows Gibraltar, with Ermin Bicakcic starting the game. The TSG defender had the final say, scoring the last goal in stoppage time in Zenica. Avdija Vrsajevic, Vedad Ibisevic (2) and Edin Visca got the others for the home side. Bosnia were able to close the gap between themselves and top of group H with their win and now sit in third place on ten points. That leaves them one point behind Greece and three behind table-toppers Belgium. Bicakcic and his side take on Albania this Tuesday in a friendly before they then face Greece in their next qualifier in June in Zenica once again.
Switzerland vs. Latvia
Switzerland maintain their place at the top of group B in World Cup qualification after celebrating their fifth win in as many games against Latvia. TSG defender Fabian Schär played the entire 90 minutes of the match. Steven Zuber also made his first appearance for Switzerland in Geneva. The winger was brought on for Xherdan Shaqiri in the 78th minute with the score at 1-0. Josip Drmic got the goal of the game in the 66th minute. The “Road to Russia” continues in June for the Swiss with an away match against the Faroe Islands.
Portugal vs. Hungary
Adam Szalai and the rest of his team were defeated by European champions Portugal in what was always expected to be an extremely difficult game for the away side. Portugal eased past Hungary in Lisbon 3-0, with an Andre Silva strike and a brace from Ronaldo giving the home side victory. TSG striker Szalai started the match and was in action for the entire 90 minutes. Hungary are now in third place with seven points after five matches. Switzerland and Portugal sit ahead of them at the top of the group. Szalai and Hungary will take on Andorra in their next World Cup qualifier in June.
Germany U19 vs. Serbia U19
TSG man Dennis Geiger and U19 player Robin Hack took a major step towards the European Championships in Georgia this summer with a 2-0 win over Serbia in Frankfurt. The U19 national team now only need a point in their final qualifier against Slovakia on Tuesday at 17:00 CEST to secure their place at the tournament.
