TSG celebrate second consecutive win with victory in Ingolstadt

Sixth match, second win, still unbeaten: TSG won for the first time away from home, beating Ingolstadt 2-1. Sandro Wagner and Kerem Demirbay got the goals for Hoffenheim in the first half. Lukas Hinterseer scored a penalty for the hosts in added time.

Personnel and Tactics:

Julian Nagelsmann made two changes to the starting XI in Ingolstadt as a result of injuries. Benjamin Hübner came in for the injured Ermin Bicakcic, the first time that he has featured in the TSG squad and his first Bundesliga appearance for Hoffenheim. Sandro Wagner came into the starting line-up in place of the injured Mark Uth. Oliver Baumann started in goal, with Niklas Süle, Kevin Vogt and Hübner completing the back three. Sebastian Rudy, Lukas Rupp and Kerem Demirbay occupied the centre of midfield while Jeremy Toljan started on the right and Pavel Kaderabek on the left. Wagner and Andrej Kramaric started the match upfront.

The first change came after 53 minutes as goalscorer Demirbay was forced off with injury. Nadiem Amiri replaced him in midfield. Nagelsmann made his final two changes in the 69th and 70th minutes, bringing off Wagner and Amiri, and replacing them with Adam Szalai and Eugen Polanski respectively. 19-year-old Amiri was struck on the head and although he was initially treated and carried on for a few minutes, he was not able to stay on for the rest of the game and had to be brought off.

Moment of the match:

Taking the lead. It was a blistering counterattack. TSG win the ball, Demirbay charges down the right-hand side, gets his head up and gives it to Kramaric. He also looks up and sees Wagner lurking at the far post, standing where a striker should be. He stretches for it...goal.

Numbers of the match:

There are some numbers from Ingolstadt which need to be highlighted. First, after the home victory last weekend, TSG now also have their first away win. It was also Demirbay’s first ever Bundesliga goal. Andrej Kramaric impressed. The Croat has now played a part in nine TSG goals with his assist to Wagner (five goals, four assists). Lukas Rupp made his 100th Bundesliga appearance for Ingolstadt in the Bundesliga. It was his sixth appearance for TSG.
