Markus Gisdol: "We want to swarm over them like bees"
"We want to swarm over them like bees,“ said the manager with a smile. For a manager, that means he wants his side to put their opponents under early pressure and win the ball back near the opposition goal. Above all, Gisdol wants special attention paid to Wolfsburg's playmaker Diego. “We've got to take the space and the desire away from him,” said Gisdol.
On the whole though, Gisdol is making sure the focus is on his own team. “I want to see us apply the same basic tactics that we did against Düsseldorf away from home.” The foundations for which have been laid this week in training. “We exasperated the players with a focus on attacking play this week using exercises with reduce the number of gaps so as to teach the lads the right moment to strike.”
“No big talk”
Gisdol refuses to cast an eye on Augsburg. “I'm not bothered about what happens there because I can't influence it,” he said. Number games are also not particularly high on the agenda either. “We want to carry on the same path that we started on against Düsseldorf. It's all about baby steps,” said Gisdol before adding, “The expectations shouldn't be too big. There won't be any big talk from us. We are just working, working and working.”
Heurelho Gomes and David Abraham will be out for the game against Wolfsburg with injuries. Eren Derdiyok will also be unavailable – the striker will undergo a groin operation in Munich on Friday morning. It will only be clear after the procedure how long he will be missing for.
Sven Schipplock and Daniel Williams, who reduced their training intensity on Thursday, will return to a normal routine ahead of the match. Koen Casteels is back to full fitness having suffered from a fever at the start of the week, so Markus Gisdol practically has a full complement to choose from.
