Regeneration after Nürnberg match
As well as Chinedu Obasi, who did a few laps of the training centre, defender Christian Eichner received treatment from the physio. It was standard procedure following a hard-fought Bundesliga match against Nürnberg: "I decided to get treatment on my thigh just in case. It's nothing unusual after a match like that," said Eichner.
The first team began their preparations for their upcoming Bundesliga match against SC Freiburg (Sunday, 15:30 CET) on Tuesday. Club captain Per Nilsson looks set for a return after completing his rehabilitation on Monday: "I think I'll be training normally again this week. We'll have to see whether I take part in all of the sessions." Following two home defeats in a row against Mainz and Bremen respectively, 1899 are desperate to record three points on home turf and put paid to any fears of being sucked into the relegation dogfight. The visitors, meanwhile, are full of optimism following their second home win of the season over Mainz. Indeed, Christian Eichner is expecting a tough match from the Breisgauer: "Anyone who saw how they played against Bayern München recently will know that they will do the same against us. They're going to be a tough nut to crack."
