TSG Hoffenheim sign Gift Orban

Bundesliga football club TSG Hoffenheim have signed striker Gift Orban. The 22-year-old Nigerian has moved to the Kraichgau from French top-flight club Olympique Lyon and has signed a long-term contract with Hoffenheim.

"In Gift Orban, we have found precisely the quick forward who makes runs in behind that we had been looking for," said Andreas Schicker, the Managing Director of Sport at TSG, who went on to add: "Gift has repeatedly demonstrated his goalscoring prowess and his love of the game at his previous clubs, so we're convinced that he will offer our team a greater variability in attack with his abilities."

Gift Orban moved to France to join Olympique Lyon from Belgian top-tier club KAA Gent in January 2024. Over the last 12 months, he has made 21 competitive appearances for the tradition-steeped French club in Ligue 1, the Coupe de France and the Europa League (five goals). Beforehand, Orban had made a total of 52 competitive appearances for KAA Gent in the Belgian league, the Belgian cup, Europa League qualifiers and the Conference League between January 2023 and January 2024. In those matches, the 22-year-old striker scored 32 goals and notched two assists.

Orban came through the ranks at Bison FC in his homeland of Nigeria and moved from there to Norway to join then second-division outfit Stabæk in 2022. He became a key performer for the club and finished top of the goalscoring charts with 16 goals in 22 games. In that season, he was also voted the best young player in the Norwegian second division and helped Stabæk achieve promotion to Norway's top flight at the end of the campaign.
